• River Rat Does not like this wine:

  December 11, 2014 - Popped this as the front half of an '08 '09 WG Coffaro vertical. This was out of whack from the get-go. New American Oak and alcohol were on the forefront aromatically and on the palate and wouldn't back down. The heat nearly burned my taste buds which made a subsequent glass easier to drink since I couldn't taste anything any longer. On night two the alc backed off a bit to show some blackberry and chocolate covered black cherry but the oak and heat were still in charge. Have generally enjoyed Wine Guerrilla Zins but this was a big exception. The fact they had back vintages of this in the tasting room should have sounded an alarm. Guess mine needs a new battery.

  Appearance: Clear, medium(+) ruby.
  Clean nose of pronounced intensity, developing. Aroma characteristics: red, black and (subtle) dried fruit (strawberry, candied cherry, black plum, raisin) with floral, pungent spice and oak-notes (red flower perfume, black pepper, sweet-spice, caramel).
  Dry/off-dry on the palate with medium acidity and medium level of ripe tannin. High alcohol, full-bodied. Pronounced intensity. Aroma characteristics repeated on the palate. Long finish.
  
  Quite delicious! Big and candied, but also displays some perfumy and silky elegance. Sure, the finish is a litte hot, but there is plenty of other things going on to prevent the alcohol from stealing the show. A lovely winter night-sipper. Ready to drink, but will keep. 91/100
