  June 25, 2009 - Deep garnet in color- bricking noted at edges. Upon opening last nite nose was primarily of barnyard/funk, some chemically smells (hair-permanant sol'n?); very little fruit. A little more fruit showing on palate--red cherries, maybe those tiny wild strawberries, cranberry. Long-ish complex finish. Have tasted this wine many times--always leaves me somewhat perplexed...even though it's not that wonderful, it still calls to me and somehow I really enjoy it. I even wondered if it was flawed, but brought some to have Paul (one of my wine gurus) try- he says no-that's just Burgundy. So this is the 2nd nite on this bottle--fruit is more prominent both on nose & palate, a little red licorice too, the "chemically-ness" has faded, soft earthiness Still some slight barnyard, tannins almost non-existent, but good acidity. My guess is that this is how it's supposed to be, but somehow I really liked last nite's funkiness. Too delicate for food--I prefer it alone.
