Community Tasting Notes 4

February 22, 2009 - Should call this one Pinoak Noir. Way too much oak for my tastes. Got talked into buying this one. Guess I'll cook with the rest of my bottles.

November 22, 2006 - Surprisingly nice nose -- more complexity than I would have thought given that it is a simple Bourgogne and around $15. A bit tart on the palate, but still better than I expected. Will see how it develops...
With time (an hour) the intial complexity of the nose seems to be due to Brett which is gaining steam and seeming more like, well, a flaw.
Still too tart on the palate.

January 14, 2006 - Decanted, no sediment, but significant cloudiness at bottom of bottle. The nose featured red fruit and something besides typical pinot funk - some mineral or spice. Palate was very simple, but tasty - primarily red fruit. By the end of the bottle, the fruit had developed into very focused and sweet raspberry, with the slightest note of cedar. Blind I would have guessed this was grenache. Not sophisticated Burgundy, but decent qpr and tasty enough to buy again.

April 12, 2005 - Bright purple - promising nose of black cherry and baking spices, cloves. On the palate, a little CO2 spritz that blows off fairly quickly, and some red fruits. Doesn't seem like this saw the usual massive amounts of new oak that Laurent usually subjects his wines to. This wine was odd in that it was at its most open in the first fifteen minutes or so after the bottle was opened, then it kind of shut down and wasn't nearly as giving. Needs a couple of years.
