Community Tasting Notes 3

May 24, 2018 - Boston burgundy society bottling, from Troquet's stash courtesy to Edward. Opened for 4 hours, the wine displays incredibly long legs and generous power. The color takes on a dull reddish hue as well given the age. The nose is concentrated and jam packed full of strawberries, macerated cherries, cinnamon, baking spice, salted plums, and anise. The wine is structured yet dominated by acids, mostly because of the mediocre vintage. Tannins are well integrated and quite tame nonetheless. Flavors of barnyard hay, fermented black beans, dark cherries, aged mandarin peel and wood bark dominate. Surprisingly, the fruit has somewhat faded and the tertiary flavors are quite dominant. The finish is dark, feisty and wrestles with power. The juice is certainly at its peak now, if not slightly past peak in my opinion. Nonetheless, this is delightful and surely showcases the pedigree of the producer.

April 18, 2010 - Wonderful Vosne. Not from a great vintage but this is holdig quite well even though this is past its peak of course.
Started a little herbal with red fruits and then evolved to a nice minty notes with tobacco, darker fruits and floral notes.
    Good finish.

December 26, 2009 - Wow. For a simple village Vosne from '92, this is terrific. Light ruby core with brickish rim. Firm nose, very floral with violets, strawberry and tobacco. A little strict on the palate, it is truely enjoyable and a very good wine. Might be past its peak but it surely do not fall apart. Palate matches the nose with also some red currants and red cherries.
    I love Engel !
