April 19, 2020 - Well maintained. Garnet w some tawny. Dried cherries, kirsch, Mushroom, nuts, leather, tea leaf, spice, wet leaves. Deftly balanced, well-matured palate. Black cherry, oak spice, coffee grounds, bay leaf, leather on a lingering finish. Never a monumental wine of complexity or power but this is still a very good wine when stored in ideal situations. Magnificent, traditional Brunello.

March 13, 2019 - Dim Sum Club at The Spot (The Spot, Marina One, Singapore): Not bad, but really quite tired - this felt a few years past its sell-by date. The nose was funky and full of rancid notes - earthy, muddy, a hit oxidative, with aromas of wet leaf, soil, browned fruits and bloody meat swirling around a touch of dark berry fruit. The palate was similarly advanced, with dried red and blackberry fruit notes - very typical of the hot 1997 vintage - and then notes of soil, earth and leafy undergrowth. There was still enough acidity and a remnant of tannins in there to keep it structured and balanced, and there was certainly quality showing in the sweet depth and polish of the wine. Decent finish with a kiss of spice cloaked with a little chew of tannins. For all that though, it did feel tired, with rather sur-mature flavours. Okay, but this would have been better 5-6 years back.

September 29, 2018 - Consumed over a 2hr dinner, no decant. Tasting notes of chocolate, leather, with refined tannins. Delicious. Cant imagine this wine improving any.

March 1, 2018 - Pretty good, nose of earth, mushroom, tobacco, leather, dried cherries. Palate is more expressive, dusty tannins, sour cherry, red fruits, tobacco, earth, leather, prune. Still quite fresh for 20 years old.

December 23, 2017 - Winebar [8 HIGH end Reds & 2 Shared Bottles] from 12/22/17 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): N: Very slightly closed; Vanilla, smoke, earth, the earth moving forward with addt'l swirling; Intensity lurking

P: Med body; LOVELY frt fairly quickly met by very, VERY finely tannic pucker which at least somewhat resolves by the quite LONG, very, VERY SLIGHTLY, almost swtly, tannic finish with just a TRACE of occas bitterness. Though making little logical sense [based upon the "pros" & other comments here], I'd say this can still benefit from considerable time (PERHAPS through '22?) with the potential to make its 30th yr. An UNBELIEVABLE wine! :) THANK you soooooooo MUCH for sharing it, José! :) 92 pts Stephan Tanzer, 91 ea WS & WE, & Silver @ '02 Indy Int'l Wine Comp

easy choice. melange of asparagus and mushrooms with black garlic came out a little too heavily spiced although the black garlic did meld nice with the wine, porterhouse was great
