October 29, 2023 - No rating because I think this wine was just a bit past it's drinking window. A good amount of bricking upon opening, it was pretty lifeless so we gave it a splash decant. This opened up the nose and gave life to some nice smooth secondary flavors, but it lacked any lift. Still, it was fun to drink with friends.

April 27, 2020 - Lots of smoke and cedar. Beautiful mature nose with dark brambly berries. This still retains great freshness and acidity giving it both balance and power. Huge complexity and a long finish. Gorgeous!

March 25, 2020 - My bottle was tightly structured and released its charms very slowly, and it's best feature was the lengthy finish of cedar and soft spices. Initially stinky, but then came the scent of red roses with big flavors of leather, black cherry, red currant, sweet strawberry and vanilla. Great tannins (gentle grip) and a bit earthy but very well balanced; this wine is built for truly passionate Sangiovese lovers. Now 25 years old and at peak maturity.

December 9, 2017 - From magnum. Holiday dinner at Atlas. This was drinking perfectly. Beautiful earthy nose, rustic, but smooth on the palate. Long finish. Spectacular!

October 18, 2017 - The 1995 Flaccianello della Pieve shows crushed black cherry, brown spices, sweet herbs and a hint of olive. This boasts soft textures with a mix of red and black fruits, and mature tannin. There is something missing on the mid-palate, yet this is beautiful for a 25 year-old wine. It finishes with medium length, residual acids and tart blacks fruits.
