  March 18, 2022 - Golden colour. Fine and developed nose with ripe stone fruit, dried fruit and some honey, some spice, mineral note and a hint of petrol. Slightly off-dry (as indicated on the scale on the back label, my guess would be something like 10-15 g/l), stone fruit, apples and pears, hints of dried fruit, some spice, good acidity and fruity aftertaste. Well balanced, still drinks well, 88 pts.
  
  This is a wine that has most of its "stuff" in the right place, but what holds me back from scoring this wine higher is that it is lacking that little "extra" on the palate. A similar wine from a top producer would show more concentration on the palate, and possibly even a little better acidity to balance the off-dry tendency (which I don't mind as such - it can be a very good thing when you want to pair the wine with food). At the time of purchase (2011) the Cave Hunawihr enjoyed a very good reputation and may have been the best cooperative in Alsace. However, I would say that they produced consistently good rather than excellent wines that were excellent value. And of course, this is a lieu-dit ("premier cru" if that had existed in Alsace) rather than a grand cru. But possibly I'm being too harsh.
