May 12, 2003 - This Washington winery began planting vines in 1986. In 1997 owner/winemaker Bob Lorkowski purchased the estate. He has increased production from 2000 to 4000 cases per year. The 23 acre vineyard is situated on a bench 100 feet above the Columbia River in the Columbia Gorge and is backed by a 400 foot tall basalt cliff. Only 220 cases of this blackish red wine were made. 13.5% alcohol but the excellent fruit and balance conceal any trace of heat or alcohol. Some crushed grape skins and spice on the nose. Full bodied with notes of pepper, cassis, blackberry and currant. Smooth tannins which flow on the medium/long finish. Excellent match with the steaks. Everyone at the table loved this wine. 91 points.
