May 4, 2023 - Sine Qua Non made Pinot Noir between 1996-2005, from Shea Vineyard in Willamette Valley. 14.0% alcohol for the 1999. A forward nose of plush red cherries, mulberry, deeply laced spices and chalk. Full bodied with subtle elegance and nuances. As if we mash the structure of 1999 red Burgundy with the ripe fruits from 2003 together. Unusual yet charming but certainly not worth paying 4 digits for a bottle. While the alcohol level was not unbalanced, I feel they are best at making Rhone Valley blends instead. (90/100)

October 28, 2020 - Really fragrant nose. Served an hour after decanting. A little meaty with leather notes.

September 7, 2020 - Pretty amazing effort here for a 20+ year old Orgeon pinot. An American pinot all the way - big, lush, lots of fruit remains along with ample acidity. This was well balanced albeit on the bigger side. Lovely red and dark fruits, moderate spice and some charcoal and smoke. Lightish purple color. Overall have to say this is a great wine that has time left.

January 28, 2018 - Havent had this in a while. Great showing tonight. Resolved and nuanced this stood its own vs a 1990 CSD Burgundy. Complex and aromatic nose. Great richness and flavors of red berries, cherries, raspberries along with some black cherries. Really well balanced. Frankly quite impressed with this as were a number of Burgundy drinkers. Plenty of life left - this was not budging over the 2-3 hours it was open.

(Sine Qua Non Pinot Noir Ox) Intriguing sexy, caramel and mulberry nose; tarry, black fruit palate with depth; medium-plus finish
