Community Tasting Notes 23

January 18, 2017 - Last bottle of three an it's a bit off. There's something of the wet cardboard in the first glass, less so the second. Somehow the tannins are much harsher and more pronounced than I recall from previous encounters with this wine 5 years a fore. For all that, the steely grit and tar-con-mineral elements are still the outstanding quality here. The fruit is not in the fore, rather funkier earth-based notes are more dominant with a spicy entry. I expect this be a stellar pairing to my weeknight spaghetti red-meatsauce dinner.

September 9, 2013 - Still awesome. The tannins are starting to mellow a bit, the fruit at least as bold.

October 9, 2012 - From the notes it looks like some have consumed without tasting notes...normally not a good sign...I have resealed and put back in frig.

Day 2...poured down the drain :(

September 21, 2012 - Was kinda afraid to open this because after an awesome first bottle the second was a total whiff. Fortunately, this one is, as George Costanza would say, everything it could be, everything it should be, and more, and definitely qualifies this for steal-of-the-century at the Cinderella sale price - wish I'd bought more! The fruit intensity here actually seems to have been kicked up a notch or two or ten since my bottle last year; it's positively saturating and almost has an inky, jammy gloss, though of course there's nothing sweet or jammy about the flavors, which are ripe and pure but not over the line. It's starting to develop an enticing savory funk on the nose as well as an earthy minerality, with all that beautiful fruit laced with gravel and a subtle touch of a Graves-like scorched-earth thing. And again even though it has serious tannic muscle somehow that adds to the appeal rather than just serving as booster rockets for the cellar ride.
