Community Tasting Notes 6

June 16, 2008 - This wine had a really interesting nose, meaty, earthy, floral, with spice, plastic and glue. Unfortunately, the palate did not keep up with the nose. I got some weak, undistinguishable berry flavours, a plastic component, a hint of liquorice and some heat from the alcohol (14.5 ABV). There was absolutely no mid-palate, like falling into a hole, and the finish was earthy and long but flabby. Disappointing.

September 17, 2007 - Clear dark garnet core out to a moderate ruby edge and thin watery rim - mod intensity and youthful in appearance. Clean nose of smoke, dark red fruit, charred oak, vanilla, earthiness and spice of moderate+ intensity - this is a wine I would say has a 'brooding' nose but still youthful. Dry with very ripe plum, tobacco, dark chocolate, earth and red berry flavours, soft and moderate tannins, moderate body, mod to mod+ alcohol and acid. Quite well balanced and ready to drink. The finish is moderately long with the fruit and oak still noticeable along with a bit of spice, smoke and alcohol heat. Still youthful in flavour but getting more complex. Drink now and over the next 3 to 5 years.

April 16, 2007 - Clear deep ruby core.

Moderate intensity on the nose - dark plums, blackfruit, smokey bbq/pork notes. Hint of that S African dust!

Dry, moderate plus acidity, moderate plus intenstity on the palate. Med-full bodied wine with hgh tannins and hgh (but supported) alcohol. Sweet raspberries, blackberries and plums (reminiscent of Douro "compote") with underpinnings of dust. Nice spiceness at the moderately lengthed finish.

April 15, 2007 - Tasted blind at Sommelier tasting - clear with moderately intense ruby core that carries right out to the rim which is thin and watery. Youthful in appearance. Clean and youthful nose of warm fruit compote, rubber, cedar, dust and alcohol. Soft and warm on the palate with moderate tannins and acid. Moderate to full bodied with higher alcohol noted. Dry with flavours of earth and clay followed by clean cherry and raspberry fruit. The finish is moderate to long with a slight bitterness and dirt/clay flavours. Could this be a South African (Syrah?) or is it possibly from the south of France? Drink now to 3 years but because of the softness, I doubt it will improve much after that.

April 15, 2007 - Clear deep dark red core leading out to a large light ruby rim. The nose shows ripe plum with some confected berry notes. Moderate oak mingles with earth and dustiness. On the palate its dry, bright red fruit in the mouth, dark chocolate and a fruity sweetness. the finish is long and dusty. Medium acid, moderate + tannin and medium alc. there was a hint of greenness/herbaciousness as well. Well balanced. Good quality, drink now - 5 years. will mature.
