December 21, 2023 - BSc graduation dinner Mees M. Franssen (Mont Tremblant): Cork was in pristine condition: ~5 mm penetration, elastic. Medium(+) garnet, slow moving tears and only 12.5% abv. Upon opening a distinct barnyard smell that was faded and plum, musk, lead pencil appeared. Dry, medium acidity, medium silky tannin, medium alcohol and body. Palate of black plum, blackberry, cranbery, dark cocoa, savory notes like leather and tobacco. Slightly rustic with some edge. Good length finish, structured and a vibrant finish.
    Drink now. At its peak

October 9, 2021 - Medium(+) garnet, slow moving tears and only 12.5% abv. Sweet fruit, plum, musk, lead pencil, wet rock, and upon opening a slight barnyard sense. Dry, medium acidity, medium(+) silky tannin, medium alcohol and medium(+) body. Palate of black plum, blackberry, cassis, dark cocoa, savory notes like leather and tobacco. Not jammy, slightly rustic! Good length finish, structured and bold with nice balance leading to a vibrant finish.
Cellaring and patience paying off. Glorious wine. At its peak???

December 24, 2020 - Pulled one of my 4 magnums from the cellar to be part of my christmas wines line-up for the coming days. This has always been one of my favorite Saint-Juliens cru bourgeois, never really disappointing and sometimes outperforming, as in this vintage. Very dark hue, bordering on opaque. On the nose cassis tones as well as plums. Good stuffing and nice acidic bakcbone. Tannins have resolved fully, making me conclude this wine will not develop much further, although it will stay on its plateau of maturity for years to come. Splendid effort!
