April 7, 2020 - Mis en bouteille au Château, expédié by Xavier de Lestapis. Very top shoulder / base of neck level, the cork broke in two but was extracted without much difficulty. Fully mature appearance; on the nose and on the palate the wine is still lively and fresh, with a modicum of tannic grip, the fruit has gone but there is a nice touch of oak spice and the aromas are light but certainly not overripe, the acidity is on the verge of separating but it is not really metallic (yet), and the finish is drying but correct, with a nice hint of blonde tobacco. The firm acidic structure reminds me of old Rioja - had I tasted this blind, I would probably have been confident in this guess. When a wine is half a century old you have to make allowances, and this bottle has stood the test of time. Still alive on the second day, but it has turned rather medicinal, with a liquorice finish.

April 21, 2007 - Académie des Cinquante Saint-Emilion Tasting (De Echoput, Hoog Soeren, Netherlands): Celery and bay leaf, high acidity, lacks depth, hint of VA, over the hill.
