Community Tasting Notes 2

February 25, 2018 - A beautiful Barolo in fine shape. A friend purchased through a retailer in Alba and brought over on the plane back in November. Cork was in great shape, high neck fill. Light perfume on nose, medium color, and surprisingly little sediment. Classic elements of tar, tobacco, licorice, rose, and even a little cinnamon. Not a single hard edge. Five of us in our tasting group were all smiles on first sip. I saved a glass for a couple days later and it evolved even more. The only downside to this wine was it had only mild complexity. However, for a 62-year-old wine, it was marvelous! The best part about this experience was knowing my friend only paid 40 euros for the bottle. Note, I've only tried one other vintage of F. Rinaldi which was a 1974, back in 2013. I remember it being more perfumed than this bottle, but not as balanced.

July 16, 2015 - Monumental Barolo dinner - Monfortino, Giacosa, Taurasi and La Romanee (Fleet Street Kitchen - Baltimore, MD): Upon opening, delicate red fruits, a hint of sherry and strong VA note. We hope it will gain a bit of fruit to counter balance VA. Unfortunately oxidative note gets stronger and VA as well. Too bad as it seems like a pretty wine.
