March 25, 2011 - At the Agnus Barn in Raleigh, NC. Decanted and drank over less than an hour. Very nice wine with muted fruit but great balance, integrated tannins and a good finish. Lots of earth with hints of spice.

September 22, 2009 - Very similar in flavor to the non-Old Vine bottling; the difference here is that the ironlike minerality is even more intense -- quite possibly even more dominant than the fruit -- and the texture is more suave. The refinement and quality of the tannin is almost pinot noir-like, but the material is much more bold and intense. It kept building in elegance as it sat in the decanter and the last sip was the best. The winemaker's blurb on the back label predicted full development by 2005, which might have turned out right in terms of flavor development, but for my tastes I'd want to give this another 5 or 10 years at least for more of the up-front primary sweetness to dissipate. Certainly it's not in any danger of imminent decline.

March 28, 2009 - Cork pulled about 2 hours before decanting for sediment and serving. Briliant reddish purple in color. Lovely nose of red fruits, tobacco, spice, leather and earth. Very plush on the palate, showing similar flavors and ending in a lengthy smooth finish. Medium bodied with great balance and fully integrated tannins and oak. A wonderfully elegant CA Cabernet that's in a great drinking window now. I don't see this improving significantly, but has the make up to last and drink well for several more years.

February 8, 2009 - A fabulous bottle of wine, showing wonderfully. Lovely aromatics, beautiful, rich mouthfeel, balanced tanin and sweet fruit, in the elegant package that is so classically Mount Eden. One of the best ME cabs I've ever had.
