Community Tasting Notes 1

April 1, 2015 - Deep mature cola color; with 1st whiff my heart sank as it was oxidative coffee ground in character; stoppered up decanter and tried 1/2 hour later - it had opened up to a very rich dark chocolate nose and palate; classic "iron fist in velvet glove" thing working here; rounded out with a gorgeous red fruit closing that went on for 40 seconds easily. After playing dead, it was still very much alive. The finish is the best part. (So ironic that despite our local merchant having direct imported this house's wines for decades, I reached a few thousand miles across the country to scarf up a mixed case of Remoissenets from the 60s and 70s. Opened this one first since it had lowest fill, was of "lesser" of the vintages (others are '64, '71 and '78s) and the capsule was pretty banged up with the cork showing through. Have very high hopes for the others!
