Community Tasting Notes 5

January 14, 2017 - No formal note. I was afraid this may be on the way down. It needed a little time to open up and it had plenty of acidity and tannins left for 12 years old. Very nice surprise. I'd drink it sooner than later if you have any left. Nice browning meniscus.

May 14, 2007 - Decanted for 1 hr. This wine is a blend consisting of 70% Cabernet, 22% Cabernet Franc and 8% Merlot. In the glass, this wine exhibited a dark purple color with aromas of ripe blackberries, black raspberries and huckleberries with hints of herbs, spices and chocolate. On the palate, flavors of blackberries, plum and raspberries were met with notes of minerality and herbs leading to a nice finish that had hints of coffee. Nice tannin structure and ripe fruit flavors in this package. HS92

February 7, 2007 - Way better balance and a bit more complexity than the Sundance. Tapenade, black plums, mocha, and oak spice make up for a very pleasant nose. This full bodied wine shows black currants, bitter chocolate, coffee beans, and mild oak. Refreshing acidity and mild tannins overall make this very approachable and enjoyable now.

February 2, 2007 - Somewhat muted dark red fruits on the nose, mostly blackberries. Very oaked up right now, but there is a lot of powerful amount of fruit lying underneath. There's some super firm tannins on this, too. A little difficult to really enjoy right now, but it's got the stuffing, and should be an extremely nice bottle in a couple of years. And pretty amazing, given the price. 90-91

Day 2: Not gassed. The fruit comes out a little more, and the wood expressed itself better today. Extremely nice bottle. I'll go with 91. But I see this hitting 92 in a year.

September 1, 2006 - Soos Creek Tasting (The Wine Alley, Renton, WA): Lots of alcohol and metal on the nose. Taste has some spice, ripe fruit, but still alcohol across the midpalate. Definitely a cab flavor, zing on finish. Better with cheese. $30
