March 7, 2010 - Darker for pinot. Brickey around the edges. On opening, oak dominated the bouguet. After two hours of decanting the oak dominance was gone, replaced by aromas of strawberry/strawberry jam and prune. On the palate the strawberry persisted, there was also a subtle grape stem taste. This wine did not show nearly as well as in past tastings. It may be getting old, or this may be a one-off. This is my fifth bottle and I ABSOLUTELY loved the previous four. I will start drinking my remaining bottles quickly, in case they are indeed rounding the bend.
I would advise opening a little early, not two hours, and I would skip the decanting. After four hours, at the end of the meal, it was quite oxidized.
