September 10, 2011 - Mature Burgundy at David's (David Paris's place): A beautiful, complex fragrance of dried herbs, baking spices, fruit and earth. Elegant and soft on the palate, silky even. Still has nice fruit and acidity though the tannins are gone. No signs of drying out - I noted the palate as 'plush'. This was beautifully balanced and elegant and lived up the vineyard's reputation. This far exceeded my expectations given the vintage and the producer. Wow.

September 10, 2011 - Ten great mature Burgundies, from a couple '96 Leroy GCs to a '61 Musigny (My House (Portland, OR)): What a killer wine, and quite a surprise. The color/intensity was no deeper than anything else here, but it probably had more red in it than most of the older wines. The aromas are pretty intense and luscious. Very pleasing and soft. Very light and dusty, candied fruit as well. On the palate, this is quite soft and luscious, with very beautiful flavors. Very mild acidity, but its presence is felt and it's nicely balanced with the other elements. Very plush and soft… like velvet. Still plenty of fruit and that delicious acid on the palate. Really, I’m quite taken back by the beauty, fruitiness and softness here. I wouldn't suggest it tasted non Pinot Noir like, it just tasted way younger than you'd think. You’d never guess the age of this wine. Lots of acid on the finish, which express pretty thick flavors. It’s quite amazing on the finish, perhaps its best element. Delicious fruit, luscious, soft. I figured I should have bought the whole offering when I saw these for sale instead of the one I wound up with... such a fun experience.

May 11, 2011 - Musigny (Marea): Nice scent. Starts out earthy and rusty and gets seriously herbal as it sits in the glass, leafy and spearminty. This still has a deep red color to it and there is some speculation that this is not exactly 100% Burgundy. There is something to the taste and something syrupy to the texture that has me thinking some grenache made its way into these barrels. Still, interesting wine and holding up astonishingly well considering its age and the fact that I've never even heard of the producer.
