July 20, 2023 - this note is for the negociant bottling- not the Gagey

aging red color, diffuse nose of pine and cherry, on the palate tiring a bit and getting dusty on the finish, with time a lovely and savory array of cherries and rose petals, given the vintage, age and wine- this may well still be in hibernation and may flesh out in a few years, but it is notably performing less well at this point than its Gagey counterpart, in any event this will need a good bit more time to fully reveal itself.

July 10, 2021 - Very dense and tight right now. By the end of the evening it had started to open up some and you could see the potential. Lots of cherry, some spice. Not sure it will ever be great, but if it eventually comes around it could be quite good.

    July 9, 2021 - Gagey bottling - decanted 2 hours before serving

medium red young color, cassis and cherry on the inviting nose, clove, spice notes still in hiding but evident, on the palate still quite tight and primary, cherry fruit on the front leading into tannins and a lengthy but closed finish, 4 hours after decanting- this is finally coming alive, spicy genteel nose, comforting like a warm fireplace in a dark wood paneled den on a winter evening, sedate on the palate providing a calm background of cuddly cherry fruit on which layers of subtle dark spices are just now beginning to weave their magic, like the 2012 this is taking quite a while to get to peak- but it should be worth the wait, as pretty as it is now with plenty of airing- this needs a few more years to fully unfurl.

April 18, 2020 - After the first bottle I decided to treat myself to a case - now that’s an endorsement. The nose doesn’t give much away but the wine itself is very classy and tells you its a grand cru with its elbows out. big, round, balanced, warm, lovely length. Really very nice. Will leave the next taste for 12 months as this still needs time but it is too nice to say it is not in its drinking window. I double decanted the wine and it started to come together after about an hour. Very very nice
