June 9, 2011 - Dark garnet-purple throughout. Sweet cherries on the nose, ever so slightly medicinal, with a hint of celery, cola, and black olives & leather. Slightly sweet on the onset with bright cherry and blackberry fruit on the onset with a rush of mouthcoaty but velvety tannins and firm acidity that covers up any midpalate. Some coffee notes on the tart medium-length finish, but again, overwhelmed by the tannins. I put this one through a vinturi at first and it came off better than out of the bottle, definitely give this one a good 2-3 hr decant or put away for a couple years more.

Day 2: Nose has evolved to a nice left-bank nose with cherries, forest floor, menthol and cola - the fruit is definitely coming through more. More of a midpalate, with tart cherries, menthol, definitely tastes like mountain fruit. Still quite a bit tannic. Reminds me a bit (only a bit!) of a young 2007 Dunn. Stay tuned for day 3.

Day 3: Still going strong, more forest floor and menthol today. Fruit is still strong, same palate as yesterday but slightly softer tannins but still mouthcoaty. Finish is notably longer... or maybe more perceptible since the tannins are not as apparent. Acidity is bright but not unbalanced.

This has so much promise on the nose and tons of structure. For a $12 wine, would be fun to put away 6-8 bottles and see how it develops over the years. Insane QPR, would cost 40-60++ from the Napa Valley... requires some patience, definitely not a pop&pour.

November 28, 2010 - Totally impressed with this wine. For fifteen bucks, one of the best cab values i can remember and this is not a fruit bomb but refined, balanced and with good backbone. Tannins are really smooth. This tastes like something 2-3 times more. I need more.
