February 7, 2018 - Giacosa Lunch: Fully mature, and the only one of the 3 Giacosas we drank one after each other to show some aged notes, but still plenty of fruit too. A gentler wine than the 2 Barolos, but still very characteristic.

July 8, 2016 - Decanted 1/2 an hour. Mature appearance - pale/medium garnet/mahogany core, wide pale mahogany rim. Developed nose but still showing good freshness with truffle, mushroom, florals and vestiges of dried red fruits. Medium bodied, soft, resolved, mature, sweet red fruits, florals, mushroom notes, touch of brown sugar, balanced acidity, good length, harmonious finish with a hint of spice emerging as it warms in glass. Very good indeed, now fully mature.

November 30, 2014 - This bottle of generic Barbaresco from a reputedly so-so vintage was really excellent. Colour was quite light and transparent but showed few signs of bricking. The nose was bright and fragrant with a blend of fresh raspberry, framboise eau de vie blanche and violets. The medium bodied pale was linear and quite long with more bright fruit adding a touch of delicious varnish and liqueur to the raspberry and violets, some underlying secondary notes, moreish acidity and enough firmness of grip to support the finish. The overall effect was fresh, fragrant and very elegant. Bravo Giacosa and Barbaresco. Excellent but my last bottle, alas.

August 30, 2014 - Very attractive nose, perhaps promising a bit more than it delivers.

September 14, 2011 - Pale/medium mahogany core, wide pale mahogany rim. Developed nose showing leather, spice, brown sugar, nutty and soil notes. There is more fruit on the initial attack, red cherries, also almonds, brown sugar and leather. This is medium bodied, with a reasonably layered and intense mid-palate, but quite firm tannins which come through on the good length, fresh finish, which shows notes of hazelnut and soil. Decent, if not exceptional, the firm tannic signature in this bottle demanding food.
