February 7, 2024 - PnP served as after dinner quaff, recorked and stored in Somm du Vin for 3 days, note from day 4. Appearance: Clear, pale amber. Nose: Clean, medium+ intensity with developed aromas of nuts - almond & cashew, flor, stewed peach, and caramelized onions. Palate: Dry, medium- acid, medium+ body, medium+ intensity, 19% abv with flavors of almond, yeast, caramelized onion, and bitter peach with a medium+ finish.

Overall, shows a fair amount of complexity but a bit challenging on the palate, with the 19% abv an added challenge. Still I found this interesting and enjoyable in small dosage.

November 27, 2023 - Tremendous value. Had this side by side with another Amontillado of similar price, and the depth and complexity of the Alvear vastly outshone the other. Would definitely buy again.

    October 19, 2023 - Pale amber
Pronounce intensity on the nose. Almond, toasted bread, walnut, flor, apricot, dried fig, pastry, developing.
Dry, high acidity, high alcohol, full body, med+ intensity, dried apricot, flor, toasted nuts, savoury notes, umami, cooked rice, a little bit tannins, long finish.
Paired extremely well with Dazha crab大闸蟹。

September 12, 2023 - Burnt orange peel, tapenade, macadamia nuts, some touches of brine and balsamic. It leans more on the biological (under flor) aging and then lends a prolonged oxidative note to it. Powerful and long. This is excellent Amontillado from the home of the style.

Bone dry, medium bodied. Heady scent.

August 27, 2022 - Nose on this is fantastic - fills the room with a rich and nutty, almost frangipane aroma, followed by fresh squeezed citrus peel and seaspray. A wisp of butterscotch even. And then... Oy, what a disappointment on the palate! Obtrusive acetone, harsh, almost acrid, and someone thin in body and character. Flavors are muddled, reedy, and a far cry from what the nose portends. Lacks balance, with the 19% alcohol feeling quite spirit-y. What a Jekyll and Hyde wine! 93 for the nose, 79 on the palate.
