Community Tasting Notes 6

August 22, 2023 - I rarely open red Burgundy at home, as my wife is not a fan and I'm seldom motivated to drink the whole bottle by myself. In addition, this is not a producer I'm familiar with, but for reasons I can't recall, I had it stood up down in the cellar so I grabbed it this afternoon - what the heck, right?

This isn't bad by any means, but in all likelihood is not worth whatever I paid for it. Vaguely pleasant on the nose, with earthy red & black fruit. A little disjointed on the palate, but overall an acceptable glass of wine. At 15 years of age, I can't really say that it feels mature, but I also wouldn't be predicting any further upside here either.

As an aside, I see that the last two notes on this wine were posted by someone who had bought the wine under screwcap - they must have used multiple closures, because the bottle I am drinking (imported by Martin Scott Wines) is sealed by cork.

January 21, 2023 - Mediocre. Lean and acidic without too much to balance, the fruit has fallen away without anything interesting developing. Screwcap.

February 2, 2021 - Pale ruddy garnet. Attractive barnyard and sous bois, touch of red fruits, sprightly red currants and cherries, slightly zingy acidity, barnyard, mineral, raspy tannins (oak?) twist of herb, good length. Bottled under screwcap.

May 7, 2017 - Lovely nose of dark fruits. Rich and enticing. Good mouthfeel, good weight, very good length. Smooth. Again, dark fruits in the mouth, with a hint of fruit pastille. Little bit of grip on the finish but I reckon this is well and truly open for business with a fairly long future ahead of it. There's a slightly odd jarring note in there that I can't quite identify, which pulled the score down slightly, but it's definitely a nice drop.
