March 2, 2021 - Tasted alongside a 2010 Saxum James Berry. We preferred this wine. My guess was a Penfolds Grange. I was only half a world away! There is a sweet raspberry-mint sweet American oak vanilla nose similar to Grange, but also some cedar and tobacco. The color is ruby-garnet, partly translucent, but no brown edges. Full-bodied, mouth-coating flavors, but very round and balanced, still some tannin in the late palate and aftertaste. Very long finish.
I'm not familiar with LAN, or many Spanish wines for that matter, but I found this fully mature and very impressive.

December 29, 2012 - Inky garnet color with dark ruby hue, deep and viscous. Dark fruit aromas showing black currant, blackberry and blue berry characters coated in an herbal bouquet of ginseng extract giving way to a complex secondary aromas of cedar, spice, leather, tobacco, cigar box and some pencil shavings. This is a powerful nose, with tremendous heat exalting its exuberant fruit and predominant bouquet. This is a medium- to full-bodied wine, translating to a concentrated palate of cherry, blackberry, blue berry and plum on the attack, leading to a very well-rounded mid-palate with a firm structure of velvety tannin and bright acidity. A huge setback of this wine is in its extremely short finish, full of complex elements of cedar, tobacco and vanilla extract, balanced with layers upon layers of red fruit showing sour cherry, blue berry and raspberry, disappearing in less than 15 seconds. What’s left is the residual tobacco shavings in a dry wood cigar box. Overall, a very solid wine, bold and complex, even with its shortfalls, I will still rate it 90 points. Hold for another year or two and let the age soften its sharp edges.

October 7, 2012 - First off - loved the bottle! The wine was a nice deep purple color. Nose of cassis and pain grille. A good amount of grip from both tannins and acid suggests this still has some years to go. A very elegant Rioja. I won't try another one until 2015...
