  April 18, 2024 - Open that botte - Jason chooses 2009 Trotanoy (Dan's new condo): Decanted about 1.5 hours, drank 1/3rd of the bottle over 2 hours. There is a purple tinge to the otherwise dark red color. A classy and classic Bordeaux nose that showcases gravel, earth, herbs and trufflle/mushroom. The palate is more fruity and floral, violets, plum and dark cherry. The tannins are already fairly resolved, resulting in a silky lush mouth feel. There is a great combination of fruit and secondary characteristics. This is drinking amazingly right now but I would venture that it will show better with a few more years age.

  April 12, 2024 - PnP - and consumed over the course of 1 1/2 - 2 hours.
  
  This wine is enchanting and captivating! I initially thought this wine would be totally primary and hedonistic. While it definitely leans on the hedonistic side of the scale with rich fruit, it is well balanced, elegant and is starting to emerge from its cocoon and display some beautiful tertiary notes to compliment the fruit.
  
  The nose shows violets, plum jam, and notes of cedar and Spring air. The palate is equally compelling, showing a wide array of flavors, including dark and red cherry, cocoa, forest floor, violets, graphite and shades of leather. The mouthfeel is silky with fine tannins and plenty of acidity to keep the fruit lively and at the forefront.
  
  I found this wine compelling right now. Regardless of how you enjoy your Bordeaux, you will find this wine compelling. For those who truly enjoy your wines balls-out hedonistic, this wine will still please you, but you may wish you had opened it a year or two ago. For those who love the tertiary component of aged Bordeaux, you also will enjoy this wine, but may enjoy it even more with another 5 years of age. As for me, this wine is in the zone right now where there is a good balance between lively fruit and tertiary goodness. I would expect it to stay in that zone for another 3 years at least.Easily 96+ and in a delightful spot! I wish I could have spent more time with this wine, but even with only two of us drinking it, it was gone all too quickly!

  April 12, 2024 - Nose: Already showing signs of tertiary notes of mushrooms, a bit of leather and beautiful forest floor (fyi, beautiful applies to the forest floor only). Enough tertiary to know it’s there but not enough to detract from the wine, for now. A bowl full of water that’s filled with blackberries, light raspberries and some cranberries. Dark plums with purple flowers. With air, tertiary notes fade, leaving a nice cedar note. Minerals surface a bit as well.
  
  Palate: Dried and spiced tree bark, dark cranberries, nice dark fruits still hanging on. Bitter graphite and dark minerals linger on the finish. With air, dark fruits win and resurface. Spiced earthiness and oak. Dark earth, fruits and a strike of dark graphite cleanly comes to peace with air.
  
  Age showing in the color, a good amount of sediment in bottle. Definitely has a good amount of age already.

  March 24, 2024 - The wine opens up after 2-hour aeration in bottle.
  Nose shows flowers, plum, vanilla, and hint of chocolate. The texture is so smooth, refined, and elegant. The perfectly ripe fruit is so sensual that makes me get goosebumps after my first sip. Its velvet tannin, its umami would coat every edge of your palate, just like milk. The finish is ridiculous long and stunning.
  I don’t know how to define perfection, but to me, this is surely very near.

  January 23, 2024 - Trotanoy is undoubtedly and increasingly making its mark on the list of very prominent Pomerols that remain relatively affordable compared to Lafleur, Le Pin, Petrus, etc. This holds true, especially in certain years when it can easily compete. This is certainly the case for the 2009 vintage, which is undeniably a blockbuster wine! In the nose, I initially detected a strong note of raw red meat; later, truffles, iron, and licorice emerged. In the mouth, the wine was silky and extremely long, full of complexity yet nothing intrusive. What a wine! What makes you give a wine a score of 99 or 100? I presume it's the moment it truly moves you. This is truly exceptional wine and once again proves that 2009 was a remarkable Bordeaux vintage!
