September 1, 2019 - Sampled from a well-cellared magnum, this 12-year-old wine is still very youthful. Opaque red/garnet in color, it is packed with ripe red and black currant fruit, accented with notes of lavender, mint, tobacco, iron and damp earth. Full-bodied, fresh and with substantial grippy tannins, it has excellent mid-palate density and hides its lofty (15%) alcohol nicely. Finishing long but somewhat astringent, this will require additional cellaring in order to reach its full potential. That said, there is no denying its classic quality. Drink 2022-2032.

August 26, 2019 - Lovely nose of flowers and red fruit with a hint of earthiness. Decanted and found a great amount of solids. Let sit for about 30 minutes and tasted. Wow! Intense flavors of dark fruit, cherry, dark cherry, some earth, some spice, and much more. Nice lingering aftertaste too. An enormous and beautiful wine.

August 10, 2019 - Opened immediately after the 07 Sammarco, and this Flaccianello seemed much more marked by the vintage. Very ripe black fruit with some tar notes, fairly angular medium tannins - unlike the Sammarco, this wine does not seem to have found its balance, and, worst case never might. In terms of style, reminds me a bit of 07 C9dP even if the tannins are more pronounced here and the alcohol is not as excessive

(Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve IGT) This cuvée has seen 24 months in new French oak, and the alcohol is a striking 15%. The production in this vintage is 60,000 bottles. The nose is very classic for the variety and region, showing a rich seam of fairly dark fruit with a very firm, custardy feel to it. Aromatically it is very appealing, but I note there is also a little hint of toffee coming in the back here, and although the 15% does not show on this tasting perhaps this elements is alluding to fruit ripeness in this warmer vintage. A beautifully composed palate, quite stylish and rich, with a good structure. There is plenty of vigour on the palate, despite the thick seam of ripeness and texture. Very different in style to the 2008, but still holding much promise.

(Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT) Very dark red violet color; nice ripe berry, blackberry, berry liqueur nose; tasty, rich, plush, wild berry, blackberry palate with depth and firm, sweet tannins; needs 4-5 years; long finish (100% Sangiovese; already tastes so much more appealing than when I tried it at a trade tasting a few months ago)

(Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT) Medium dark red color; nice cherry, dried cherry, red berry, sweet oak nose; tight, tart cherry, red berry, ripe cranberry palate; medium-plus finish

(Flaccianello (signed/personalized) 3.0lt) Flaccianello et al Dear Friends, In classic retailer speak, I'm about to tell you the 2007 vintage (at the high end) is as good or better at Fontodi than the 2006. Considering the 2006’s were among the highest rated wines in all of Italy last year (including for the 2006 Flaccianello and for the 2006 Vigna del Sorbo), that statement sounds a bit tenuous and contrived. It isn’t. I should let Giovanni Manetti (the owner of Fontodi) do the talking for me but he prefers to do the signing. He’s so sure of 2007’s prowess, he’s agreed to sign and personalize large format bottles of 2007 Flaccianello expressly for you – that’s downright unheard of in the wine trade. In other words, he’s going to take the time to personalize each 3.0lt bottle with a note to you on the label – whether you’re Mr. Smith, Mr. Harper, Ms. Jones, etc, you will get a personal note from Giovanni (with your name) thanking you for your patronage. In truth, this is a thank you for the support we’ve (you’ve) given Fontodi over the years. There’s no catch, no gimmick, no ulterior motive – he just wants to do something special that will be remembered and appreciated by our audience. He is not extending this offer to anyone else. So, if your own unique and giant 3.0lt bottle of Flaccianello sounds appealing, please let us know at your earliest convenience. I cannot publish the price (as per Giovanni’s request, but we have special pricing for one day on all three wines below) - you can email Niki and she will give you the price list ( niki@garagistewine.com ). The only catch from our end is that Giovanni is doing all the signatures/notes this weekend so this offer has to be confirmed by tomorrow night (in other words, we need to know if you would like any of the below by tomorrow afternoon at the latest). VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEDED as a one-off opportunity to acquire a personalized centerpiece for your cellar or collection: 2007 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve 3.0lt (signed/personalized) - $ (please email Niki for the price: niki@garagistewine.com ) We also have... 2007 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve (750ml) (NOT signed) - $ (please email Niki for the price) ...and... 2007 Fontodi Vigna del Sorbo (750ml) (NOT signed) - $ (please email Niki for the price) To request prices and/or to order any of the above: niki@garagistewine.com All are set to depart from Panzano – all will arrive in the late Spring/early Summer (please check OARS for local pick up after July 1st). All will ship during the Fall shipping season. Out of state orders will be held for free under ideal storage conditions (56 degrees/70%humidity) until shipping is possible. Locals may pick up at their leisure. For current local pick up and arrival/ship information, please see your OARS link below (at the bottom of this offer) - don’t know how to access your OARS?
