April 15, 2024 - Better than in my note three years ago. To celebrate completion of tax day. Cherries and violets on the nose and palate. As previously stated, a good food wine. Lingers on the mid palate. Tannins and acidity well under control.

April 10, 2024 - Second of 3 (5/22, 97+), and I’m much more in the camp of Luhar than Burgundy Al. When I drank this last, I put the drinking window out to 2035. Wrong ‘em boyo. This came out of the bottle fully integrated, and while the tertiary notes were diverse and delicious, the structure, particularly the tannins, really faded to black pretty quickly, although you could still feel them just a bit with food, roasted chicken on night 1, red sauce pasta night 2. Probably should have known this wouldn’t have been the longest lived edition of this, what with the warm vintage and being pretty balanced off the pour a couple of years ago, while other vintages of similar age are still taking hours to come to their best selves. Solid 95-96 night one, 94 night 2, but in both instances, lacking the ferocity of prior bottles. Will drink my last bottle in the next 6-12 months, and while this was an auction purchase so I can’t vouch for how these were treated before they came into my care, would encourage others to do the same. Taking my drinking window in by a decade. Ouch. N.B. Half of Tuscany is in the bottom of the bottle, so if that sort of thing bothers you, well, you know what to do.

February 18, 2024 - Entering a nice drinking window. Still solid fruit and tannins, but they are balanced and beginning to pick up tertiary flavors

February 11, 2024 - Good Wine with an Exciting Super Bowl (The Krengels - Bannockburn IL): Walk around tasting. Rich and nearly sweet fruit that seem so young, which is a good thing because the tannins are still too firm. Not perfectly balanced to me, others enjoyed this more, but I would cellar for probable further upside.

January 25, 2024 - The Roots Fund Charity Wine Dinner (Atelier - Chicago IL): Late night taste. Interesting and complex, but I found it less perfectly balanced than other tasters. But still certainly very good.

(Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT) Very dark red violet color; nice ripe berry, blackberry, berry liqueur nose; tasty, rich, plush, wild berry, blackberry palate with depth and firm, sweet tannins; needs 4-5 years; long finish (100% Sangiovese; already tastes so much more appealing than when I tried it at a trade tasting a few months ago)

(Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT) Medium dark red color; nice cherry, dried cherry, red berry, sweet oak nose; tight, tart cherry, red berry, ripe cranberry palate; medium-plus finish

(Flaccianello (signed/personalized) 3.0lt) Flaccianello et al Dear Friends, In classic retailer speak, I'm about to tell you the 2007 vintage (at the high end) is as good or better at Fontodi than the 2006. Considering the 2006’s were among the highest rated wines in all of Italy last year (including for the 2006 Flaccianello and for the 2006 Vigna del Sorbo), that statement sounds a bit tenuous and contrived. It isn’t. I should let Giovanni Manetti (the owner of Fontodi) do the talking for me but he prefers to do the signing. He’s so sure of 2007’s prowess, he’s agreed to sign and personalize large format bottles of 2007 Flaccianello expressly for you – that’s downright unheard of in the wine trade. In other words, he’s going to take the time to personalize each 3.0lt bottle with a note to you on the label – whether you’re Mr. Smith, Mr. Harper, Ms. Jones, etc, you will get a personal note from Giovanni (with your name) thanking you for your patronage. In truth, this is a thank you for the support we’ve (you’ve) given Fontodi over the years. There’s no catch, no gimmick, no ulterior motive – he just wants to do something special that will be remembered and appreciated by our audience. He is not extending this offer to anyone else. So, if your own unique and giant 3.0lt bottle of Flaccianello sounds appealing, please let us know at your earliest convenience. I cannot publish the price (as per Giovanni’s request, but we have special pricing for one day on all three wines below) - you can email Niki and she will give you the price list ( niki@garagistewine.com ). The only catch from our end is that Giovanni is doing all the signatures/notes this weekend so this offer has to be confirmed by tomorrow night (in other words, we need to know if you would like any of the below by tomorrow afternoon at the latest). VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEDED as a one-off opportunity to acquire a personalized centerpiece for your cellar or collection: 2007 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve 3.0lt (signed/personalized) - $ (please email Niki for the price: niki@garagistewine.com ) We also have... 2007 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve (750ml) (NOT signed) - $ (please email Niki for the price) ...and... 2007 Fontodi Vigna del Sorbo (750ml) (NOT signed) - $ (please email Niki for the price) To request prices and/or to order any of the above: niki@garagistewine.com All are set to depart from Panzano – all will arrive in the late Spring/early Summer (please check OARS for local pick up after July 1st). All will ship during the Fall shipping season. Out of state orders will be held for free under ideal storage conditions (56 degrees/70%humidity) until shipping is possible. Locals may pick up at their leisure. For current local pick up and arrival/ship information, please see your OARS link below (at the bottom of this offer) - don’t know how to access your OARS?
