  October 21, 2021 - Dark, backward, extracted and intense. More Gevrey Chambertin than Vosne. Not sure if it will ever come around, like many of Bouchards wine in that era. Good intensity nevertheless. Agree with Liber that the wine is in a brutal stage.

  August 16, 2021 - Bottle breathe for 2 hours. Nice perfume with cherry, flower and smooth nose, the palate is integrated. Medium finishing

  January 28, 2020 - 4th of 6, opened an hour, perfect level, cork half travelled, final quarter broke off but was extracted relatively cleanly with some trouble, unchanged from October 17 bottle, still in rather brutal unforthcoming phase with first bottle showing more, needs time as underlying quality not in doubt. F (17.5).

  May 4, 2019 - I was very interested in trying this wine to get the impressions of the interpretation of that vineyard holding from a top vintage before Louis Michel LB took it back to start to make wines from it under his label again. I must confess I love Comte Liger Belair’s Reignots and the only reason my cellar is not stuffed with them is due to the crazy market prices. So back to this much more affordable bottle with Bouchard label: the cork was two third soaked and broke but the sommelier managed to extract it eventually. Initially this was very closed and muted and I was worried if this was going to come into its own. Well long story short it took a full two to three hours of air in a wide Zalto Burg glass to properly unfold. When it did it proved to be worth the wait. Shared with a dear friend and Burgundy lover/cognoscenti I am going to borrow his remark that he observed the wine to be confidently extracted with old meets new winemaking. The nose proved spectacular offering an ample bouquet of sweet cherries, blueberry sorbet, yoghurt, notes of game, sweet plum and bay leaf, crushed rocks. The palate was strong too but not quite up there with the nose (as is sometimes the case with red Burg in my view which often you could just sit and sniff) but it offered up an attractive core cherry fruit with ample minerality but could perhaps have shown more stuffing. However this could be just a matter of years of more aging to bring it out - this wine still felt decidedly in the way up. But probably better we pulled the cork due to the rather fragile state it was in. Impressive and educational. Which is the better Reignots? I do love Liger Belairs sexiness and if given the choice I’d give his version the nod but taking market price into account this 99 version from Bouchard should not be dismissed and is also a longer lived example of as I doubt Comte LB Reignots will necessarily be going strong for 30-40 years where this is clearly a 40 year wine.

  April 22, 2018 - Pnp. Nose has blackberries, spice and gentle oak. Palate is very dense with a long finish. Like many of Bouchard's red, it lacks the floral character. The fruit is also not very expressive. Wish we had more time to open up the wine. The 99 vintage is well-reflected here. There are definitely good underlying potential in this wine. Give it more time. Still too young now. The length and intensity of this wine are grand-cru class. Maybe it just needs time for the fruit to play out its sweetness.
