Community Tasting Notes 12

February 1, 2014 - Nose with sweet dark berries and cooked fruit character - stewed plum and fruitcake - some spice (partly of the glühwein type), some smoke and prnounced animal notes with some dungheap. Medium bodied (-), somewhat alcoholic, dark berries including blackberries, medium- fruit concentration, decent acidity, some spice, some tannin that linger in the aftertaste. 82 p.
Seems to have improved somewhat since I tasted it almost three years ago. I think that some spice notes have taken a bit of the edge off the alcohol, and the slightly edgy tannins have softened somewhat.

September 11, 2013 - Rather like this. Smoke & earth with amazing balance given the alcohol, delicate almost. No rough edges. Better than expected and packs much more flavor and balance than a typical everyday boring red wine.

    June 16, 2013 - nothing special - low value - regular wine

February 17, 2012 - Clean, medium ruby with a pronounced nose of smoke, charred wood, and dried fruit. The smoke and wood characteristics are despite the wine not seeing any oak. Although a fault, I get some brett here, too. The palate is pleasing with loads of creamy apricot and black fruits. This wine will do well when grilling out. Medium finish and a very good example of a pinotage.
