  December 25, 2016 - Earthy but full of fresh berry fruit on the nose. Subtle spice, black fruits and some wet earth. The palate is smooth as silk with black forest cake characters. Dark cherry, plum, melted chocolate. Wonderful finish with medium acidity, full body and chewy tannins. Beautiful

The palate is consistent with that, not over-ripe (thankfully), but just so rich with sweet fruit I began to wonder if it was actually fermented to dryness. Low in acid, and essentially tannin-free, its a crowd-pleasing, what-you-sniff-is-what-you-get style. Reading the back label later, I find a splash of added viognier is likely responsible for its generally extrovert character (the included touch of petit verdot may give the crimson aspect to the colour but does little else). Needless to say, an early drinker, but hugely competent in its medium-full bodied style; would make even the most scorched sausages palatable.
