Community Tasting Notes 6

March 1, 2014 - My last bottle of this and it has improved from my prior tasting. Decanted for 1 hours and enjoyed with grilled skirt steak. Very right bank Bordeaux in style - black currants / cassis / tobacco / earthy. Showing no signs of oxidation and great with the steaks and long finish with medium+ body. 92+ This is just in it's drinking window in my opinion. Would buy again.

February 23, 2013 - Consistent with note from 1/2011. Decanted for 1 hour and served with grilled pork chops. 90-91 range.

September 22, 2012 - Deep garnet color, initially the nose and palate were quite shut down. After and hour decant the wine opens up quite nicely. Tastes of anise, cedar, ripe plum, smokey, with medium finish tannins.

March 10, 2012 - Popped, decanted and poured. The nose on the first pour was subtle with fragrant and balanced dark fruits. First taste was balanced and consistent with the dark fruit nose. Thus far a nice wine fir for any daily drinker and a solid QPR. An hour into the decant we see the nose gain complexity with a chalky layer mixing with the solid fruit base. Not overly fragrant but very pleasant. An interesting mouthfeel is developing with a minerality mixing with the sharpening currants and blackberry fruits. Interestingly the alcohol didn’t reveal itself until now and at 14.5% the fruit-forward reveal makes more sense. This is a wine that should be served with food as the flavors greatly balance the medium-rare petite filet I am eating with it. The food also helps balance the alcohol of which I am growing less and less a fan of. Overall, a fine wine, excellent dinner companion and fantastic QPR.

January 14, 2011 - Blackish red in the glass. Very complex nose - blackberry. black raspberry / leather / black currants / earthy. Velvetly mouthfeel - has structure but feels silky. Flavors consistent with nose with red fruits more evident on the palate and a touch of mineality - great acids, great balance, but as prior taster noted tannins are not noticeable. Long finish. Excellent with grilled flat iron steak - Great Cab for a Bordeaux fan - very enjoyable and good value whereit is priced. Would buy again. 91-92. Should garner a higher rating with time [Decanted for 2 hours before dinner].
