July 6, 2019 - A bit muted on the nose initially, but flavor explodes on the palate. Red and black fruits mingle, balanced by Indian spices, green briar herb notes, and a super long finish. WOTN.

June 23, 2018 - At the Milling Room in NYC with Valerie/Mer/Steve/Anne- great food and reasonable corkage. This was one of my contributions, in the cellar from release. Decanted for about 30 minutes, drank over 90.

From prior notes: "Dense purple color, no signs of age. Nose of dark fruits, tobacco and smoke. Palate is blackberry, cassis, chocolate, coffee and earth/dust. Some baking spice and cinnamon on the back palate."

Picking up dark cherries, blackberry, baking spice, mocha, and tobacco leaf on this tasting. Great mouthfeel, luxurious/elegant. Tannins have softened but still vibrant and expressive wine - should still have a long drinking arc ahead of it.

The 2006 Napa wines (at least from my cellar) have really done well, this is a great example. Benefited from the decant, would allow an hour if venue allows.

June 14, 2018 - Medium to full bodied. Blackberry. Linear. Integrated tannins. Delicious.

April 1, 2018 - Good with consistent notes. The only thing that seemed to be missing tonight was the WOW factor that had accompanied this wine in the past. Hard to explain why. It still exhibited the dense concentration and complexity that I love about Ovid. In the past, the wine has burst out of the glass. Tonight it was more restrained.

June 23, 2017 - Oppulent. Obviously American. Strong nose of oak. A little tight/tart still. Could probably cellar another 10 years.

(Ovid Napa Valley) The current release shows a dark, wild-plum-skin color, rich and dense in the glass. A lush nose, contrasting with the vibrant fruit explosion of the 2005, yields notes of vanilla with cooked black cherry and a vapor of cola. The soft texture hinted at on the nose is confirmed on the palate, where abundant layers of dark-red-to-purple fruit with a touch of licorice are followed by anise, well-integrated spices (particularly black pepper), and tannin. Notes of vanilla appear on the midpalate, ending in a creamy finish reminiscent of warm custard.
