September 7, 2019 - Decanted around 4pm and tasted th rough about 11pm. This may not be the most sophisticated wine ever, but wow is it tasty. It is a beautiful garnet color with little to no bricking. Nose has a lot going on with some obvious but mostly integrated oak showing as vanilla and huge plummy and black fruit. Acidity is moderate but balanced and enough to keep the wine lively. Any tannin is nearly all integrated as well. Flavors are layered and ripe but not over done, more of a feminine style with an elegant but rich mouth feel. Plum, a little mint, blueberry jam and chocolate cycle through to a finish that is long and lightly lingering. So easy to drink along or with food, in this case grilled steaks. So easy drinking and one of the better buys I’ve had on Close-out from the winery 7 years ago.

October 12, 2018 - In my cellar for about 6 years after purchase on clearance from the winery. About two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon with the balance being Merlot, Cabernet Franc and in this vintage, a little Petit Verdot. Double decanted the afternoon before taking to a tasting in the evening with about 2 hours in the decanter. The wine is a translucent medium garnet with some slight bricking. The nose has some vanilla, plum, pencil lead, cassis and a touch of eucalyptus. The mouthfeel is bright with mostly integrated tannins and good acidity.. Flavors include those in the nose with a little anise and a touch of cigar tobacco on the finish which is moderately long. Very elegant and balanced, not at all in your face or aggressive. Very feminine in structure...very much my preferred style.

September 23, 2016 - Dark near black with no brick. The nose is fruity, the mouth entry has an initial smooth texture quickly followed by an acid bite and drying tannin. Overall, has the acid, tannin, and dryness of a French Bordeaux, along with strong black currant and blackberry fruit, that persist together throughout the entire taste through the final finish. No Napa softness or sweetness here. Nor does the wine show any sign of deterioration.

July 28, 2013 - It has been about 7 years since I had this wine. One of my first purchases when I was getting started. An interesting nose of plastic, vanilla, great pepper and dark fruit. Much more red fruit and vanilla on the palate. More coffee and sweetness came out over time. Nice balance, medium finish. Still youthful.

January 22, 2013 - My first Wine Club ever was Cosentino. I was introduced to the club by a former girlfriend and we had a rather sordid affair. Even though my wife knows (most of) the details of the story (before I met her) it's best not to revisit. Regardless, Cosentino wines were my entry into fine wine appreciation and the Poet at the time was the apogee (at least for my budget). This wine takes me back to that era in my life (don't say anything to my wife). Plum and blueberry tossed with bacon fat, this wine rocks my world. Intense flavors and complexity and a finish that goes on for days. As I progressed through the wine, my memories began to fade and the wine became more profound. Im not a Bordeaux kind of guy, but this wine has me wrapped around its little finger. I need a cigarette. 93 points.
