Community Tasting Notes 2

January 1, 2011 - Medium ruby color. Initial nose smells exactly like cherry Robitussin, which is actually kinda fun in a kicky way. After the Robitussin blows off, the nose settles into a cherry pie thing, with some cinnamon and blood orange in the background. Initial palate shows bright acidity and medium-grained tannins. The cherry fruit shows up on the palate along with candy corn (seriously). There's a distinct bitterness on the mid-palate that's distracting, not sure if it's something that'll eventually mellow, but for now it's rather unpleasant. In addition to the bitterness, there's noticable alchoholic heat that also detracts from the overall package. The finish is bright and spicy but not very complex or long. All-in-all, a medium-bodied pinot that tastes like cherry Robitussin and candy corn. Drank over two nights, and it never really improved with time, and the bitterness didn't lend itself positively to any food pairings. Clean fruit, but no great oomph. (80-82).

August 3, 2010 - Flavors of strawberries abound, accented by mild spice and vanilla. Slightly tart on the tongue, but a decent mouthfeel with reasonable acidity. I bought the bottle for $14, so it represents a good QPR, but it falls flat of the quality I'd expect in a reserve.

With a few years of aging, the flavors may blend better such that the quality to price might be well worth it. For now, the wine tastes young and unruly.
