December 29, 2023 - Wonderful mix of bright red fruits, leather and a hint of flowers. Nice grip on the finish and in a mature, balanced state. Very good. Peaking but not running out of steam. Drink now or in next few years.

July 20, 2020 - Prior bottle was a bit over two years ago and this bottle was probably the best. Red cherry and red berries along with spices and leather notes on the nose. Medium bodied with the same mixture of red and black cherry both upfront and through the middle. This time, the mid-body seemed to have more depth and the balance had improved as well. Backside showed blackberry and tart red cherry with fine grained tannins, earth, leather and mineral notes through the finish. The expressiveness, especially through the middle was a clear step up from my prior bottle; beautifully silky and elegant. The structural qualities and fruit notes showed excellent balance. This wine is at peak and drinking exceptionally well at present. Should be able to hold this level for another few years, but don't miss the current window.

December 6, 2018 - Nice red fruit, with good acidity and firm structure. Nose is light, but delightful, better closer to room temp, when it livened up at bit. A great mature Brunello, ready to drink, but no rush.

July 6, 2018 - Red cherry, floral and leather notes on the nose with just the barest hint of black notes behind. Medium bodied (14% ABV) with red cherry upfront with some brightness, deepening through the middle and pulling in notes of black cherry, but no plum this time and not quite the depth or concentration of the prior bottle. Good acidity on the back side and retains the fine grained tannins, but they are much more integrated than previously. Finish was fairly similar to prior bottle with spices, minerals, leather just a touch of vanilla which actually bound all the elements together. My prior bottle was almost 18 months ago and the bottle tonight was open about an hour beforehand and then drunk over the course of an additional three hours and it certainly got better as time went on. Based on this showing, I think my instinct to finish my last bottle of the 2004 normale in 2018 is a good one and with one bottle left of the Riserva, I will probably save that for early 2019.
