Community Tasting Notes 2

July 29, 2018 - A good dark colour, still a purple tinged red, with some slight bricking towards the rim. After a slightly dull start, this opened up nicely in the glass to give off clean, fresh dark fruit aromatics (black cherry, elderberry, blackcurrant pastille) with a strong but attractive herb and green peppercorn overlay. Quite savoury. Also a nice steeliness, which had one thinking towards Barolo. The palate is rather gentle and unassuming, nothing out of place but lacking a bit of vigour, with just a hint of oiliness there too. I find the Umathum single vineyard wines can be a bit austere in their youth, but this has aged nicely, though at the expense of its youthful vigour.

March 27, 2010 - This is one of the better Zweigelt wines I tasted. Elegant with pleasant dark fruits like cassis and soft tannin. Nice wine.
