November 2, 2019 - Incredible. This is the reason you buy large format bottles. We opened this 5 liter 2002 at a wine party with 37 serious tasters. More than a dozen other wines present. I consider Petite Sirah hard to make or at least can be very offputting when young. This wine was big in the mouth, full of fruit, elegant balance, very little tannin, long finish... overall excellent... and plentiful. :-)

January 5, 2012 - This is drinking reasonably well. Developing some bottle boquet, but still very petite syrah in flavor profile. Somewhat monolithic. tannin came to the fore after a couple hours open. I tend to like PS starting at about 10 years old, ,and this has rewarded cellaring, but should have no trouble going longer.

September 27, 2009 - Black raspberry compote with dark chocolate ganache, with gobs of purple fruit and plenty of structure left among the velvety layers. Complementing notes of oak, cassis, and vanilla contribute to this fruit bomb. This is accessible now but I think will improve over the medium term. A very deep and penetrating wine, and a totally delicious one, although a little sweet and ultimately limited in complexity. The texture and body of the wine are not OTT just because it shows its ripe sweetness. Good wine, and I expect it to be a little better tomorrow.

April 12, 2009 - Dark in color without apparent signs of age. Very nice nose of blackberry, oak, spice and anise. Full flavor with softening tannins but plenty of youthfullness as well.
