April 14, 2023 - St. Emilion night (Chicago, IL): Shows very ripe, with plenty of plummy notes on the nose and palate. The distinction between this at the 2001 Chapelle really is the texture -- whereas the Chapelle is a bit coarse, this has a full, silkiness on the palate that is really enjoyable. The tannins on the back end aren't yet fully resolved, but there's a velvety, almost dusty quality to them. To me this feels like it's just entered its secondary stage.

March 20, 2023 - This has an incredible nose of black cherry spice and chalky minerals. Leaner and certainly in it's drinking window and it reminds me a lot of Cheval Blanc in the leaner vintages like '96 and '06. Really crisp and precise with a regal texture and lovely secondary flavors of truffles and . The finish is taut and still grippy with phenomenal flavors of graphite and chalk minerals. No doubting this terroir in my opinion.

July 16, 2022 - A clear candidate for wine of the vintage, this stunner is concentrated, full-bodied, deep, long, and intense Multi-faceted and multi-layered, the wine finishes with ample freshness and crushed stones with a touch of thyme that builds and lingers. Drink from 2025-2055.

April 9, 2022 - Very good but not great Ausone. Decanted for two hours. Pretty, lithe nose of blackberries, brambles and truffle. The wine is medium to full bodied, in early maturity and nicely balanced. Blackberry, plums, smoke and herbs come through. The wine is delicious, elegant but a tad thin and short on the finish. Overall a different kind of wine than recent Ausone’s. More classic in style.
