Community Tasting Notes 5

February 19, 2024 - This was a thing of beauty. A bit shy on the nose at first, this opened up with classic blue fruits and smoky/savory tones that gained depth and precision with a couple hours of air. As joyous as the nose was, it was on the palate where this slayed: beautifully sweet fruit on the gentlest frame, silken and delicate with virtually no weight at all, with amazing length and persistence. You never know with these older bottles, but this was an exceptionally fine Côte-Rôtie.

February 18, 2024 - Dinner with Salil and Zach (Salil's, Albany, NY): Open for an hour: Big smoky nose of red and black fruit. Muted up front, but the finish is sublime. Needs more time to open up.
Open for four hours: Now the nose is really singing. Loads of dried blackberries and spice. Expansive. Thrilling from start to finish now. Wow!

February 18, 2024 - See Chomsky's note. This was incredible, just spectacular, old school Côte-Rôtie with tons of meaty and earthy savouriness, gentle red fruit, and fresh herbal and green olive notes coming together on a remarkably light, gentle frame. Stunning wine. Thanks Z.

September 28, 2018 - A delicious, classic Côte-Rôtie that’s now in its window of peak maturity

May 26, 2008 - Drinkable after about a 2 hour decant. Not nearly as good as the 1990 we had about a month ago.
