January 7, 2011 - BW/WE Annual Riesling Dinner (Golden Beach Seafood Restaurant, Changi Golf Club): This was really impressive, and drinking far better than a 2007 Kirschenstuck we had one day back. Lovely nose showed very expressive, almost Asian tones of white flowers, green herbs, guava, green papaya and light tropical fruit scents just bursting out of the glass. There was a touch of sulphur on the palate, but we got past that very fast to meet some lovely fruit flavours - peach, green apples, grapefruit, limes and pineapples, all on a floating flowery background. Past the mid-palate, a solid mineral core started coming to the fore, and then the fruit remerges again at the super-fresh finish where they were met by a twist of slightly bittersweet fruit peel. Unlike the rather hulking Kirschenstuck, this showed a pitch perfect balance. Gorgeous stuff.
