Community Tasting Notes 5

November 27, 2022 - My first bottles of this were at 4 years and 14 years (both scored 91 points), here we are at close to 20. Bright, light golden, like a 10 year old Batard. Very nice nose of apricot, slight contrast of sweet vs. pungency like pineapple, tiniest bit of fusile TDN; palate revealing the same with a mineral, almost salty pop to it. Excellent. 92+

September 21, 2017 - Wow! More than 10 yrs since my last note on this one. Beautiful glimmering yellow color of a 5 yr old white burg; really gorgeous riesling nose of tart orchard fruit, crushed stone and petrol hints of TDN. Really nice texture and mouthfeel with surprising viscosity and really surprising dryness. The nose is worth 95 pts but I was slightly disappointed that a Spatlese in such a dry, hot vintage lacks just a bit more sweetness. With 8.5% ETOH on the label, I am surprised. If tasted blind, would have expected the label to have "Trochen" on this one. An excellent wine just the same.

April 1, 2007 - Pale straw color; steely, dry nose of pure minerals and kiwi, slightest oily scent; crystaline mineral, lime and salty palate with good citric acidity. Fine length; should age beautifully.

June 16, 2005 - This was poured at the WS Las Vegas Grand Tour last month. St. Urbans-Hof is a very fine QPR producer. Their wines from the Piesporter Goldtropfchen vineyard are particularly good. This estates parcel of the Goldtropfchen vineyard is known as the 'Mosel Loreley'. It is the lowest part of the vineyard and ends at a steep rocky face which falls directly into the Mosel river. It is horseshoe shaped and receives added warmth from the Sun which reflects off the river. This provides for better ripening. This wine had a creamy melon character. Notes of black currant and herbs as well. Good mineral backbone. 90 points.
