October 27, 2023 - Wednesday night steak night: Another auction purchase. Deep purple. Lovely nose - lots going on but again, clean as a whistle, lots of zip - cranberry maybe, some honeysuckle, a vague hint of forest floor. The palate is still fully there - the tannins are noticeable but in line, the acid is bracing, the structure is very much to the fore but it holds the fruit up well. This was absolutely ready to go but good grief more life in it yet. Yummers.

December 10, 2021 - Muted on opening, came to life after a few hours in the decanter. Remarkably dark and concentrated for over 20 years old, but properly stored throughout. This is still one of my favourite wines, last bottle of 13.

October 10, 2018 - Highly aromatic, plummy and tobacco. Velvety in the mouth with resolved tannins, solid acidity, and crystallized fruit. Mature with broad flavors, and ok length. Drink now and over the next few years.

May 7, 2017 - B30; G5; 4*+8*+4*+8.5+8.5+4*+4.5=92+; Very dark, nearly impenetrable red velvet color with very slight oxidizing detectable on the edges where some light gets through! Not highly aromatic, but some overripe cherry and cardboard notes are predominant; mouthfeel is smooth upon entry, then swallowing highlights the tannins and acidity as air is re-established on the tongue. Good depth of flavor with rich cherry and faint menthol. This could really be called "light" for a Petit Sirah. Quite nice from that respect. I imagine this has mellowed considerably over the years as it does not strike me as a particularly well-balanced wine, but it is now nicely integrated and very drinkable with smooth tannin that gives wonderful depth to a long finish. I would not be surprised if well-cellared bottles would have many more years of life left, although I doubt it will improve much and will likely start an oxidizing downhill drift. It was worth my $110 charity auction price. A very nice wine tasting experience of a nearly 18-year old wine that was well-made.

April 30, 2017 - Supposed to be past it. Nice colour. Slight menthol nose. Fruity, pear drops taste. Still good tannins.
