May 4, 2024 - High shoulder fill. No signs of seepage. The cork clearly took a disproportionate sampling of this wine - the bottom 1/2 inch was complete soaked through and the remainder of the cork had its out 1/8 of an inch of completely soaked. A strainer into a decanter was needed to separate the cork bits, even after use of an ah-so. Total sediment however was only about a half teaspoon. Color was just beginning to show signs of bricking and no orange. Initially a lot of Oak on the nose, which blew off within 15 minutes in the decanter. Back into the bottle for a second aeration with a rubber stopper inserted until dinner. At dinner, a couple hours later, it took the wine another 30 minutes to come around in the glass. The nose was interesting but far from exotic: ripe blueberries, some hints of mocha, tobacco, cedar, and hard leather. The palate was more expressive and if blind tasted I probably would have guessed a quality Right Bank wine of only 10 - 15 years. Ripe blueberries followed by a wave of slightly sour blueberries. Lurking throughout was the hard leather, tobacco, cedar and mocha. Velvety and lush on the center of the tongue with a simultaneous touch of nice food acidity on sides of the tongue - an distinct experience I don't recall with any other wine young or old. After the first 30 minutes, the wine did not change for the next 90+ minutes. My score includes 2 extra points for ageworthiness as I suspect this bottle would have showed similarly on its 70th birthday. My wife loved it more than I did, which is great because it was her birthday wine and she would have given it 97 points without any kicker points.

March 25, 2023 - Check for typos: perfect bottle, but in competition with the Evangile 1975, perfect dark color, the nose was sweet and still fresh and also some truffles but the first smell was dried fig, really nice. The palate and the balance were really incredible. But in comparison to the Evangile, it was less sweet and much more classic. For me, it still has some years to come. What a bottle, really a great wine!

February 4, 2020 - A wonderful example of old-school Petrus, that even though it is starting to fade, still offers a sultry, sensuous, truffle laden experience that coats and glides over your palate with layers of dark, sweet, opulently textured plums, cherries, spice, licorice, smoke, tobacco and spice.

January 4, 2020 - The P Wine (Bourbon Steak, Aventura, Florida): Incredibly impressive and far more energetic than the previous younger bottles in the lineup all the way up to vintage 1989. The bottle looked good with a top shoulder level and deep mahogany color (from WineBid). Yes it’s old school Bordeaux with its firm tannins and very slightly rough texture and obvious structure but the decades have laid down the layers of taste sensations like the rings of a sequoia tree. Very intense and persistent. Beyond all the fruit phases it must have weathered, the pleasure is half on the palate and half in the mind. Impressive and compelling. Such elusive complexity, so much a confit fruit compote. Unique and a fabulous experience.

9/28/2003 (link) 95 points(Pétrus) Petrus 1921 - 1966, all the great years, in Magnum (Melisse Restaurant, Santa Monica, California): From magnum - very distinct nose that reminded me of wood polish and fruit cake; nicely concentrated, with great fruit, cherry, cedar, a sweet mid-palate; a finish of about 40 seconds.
