An oaky and earthy nose to start with. The palate was quite flat at first with acidity emerging from the back, and quickly developed a waxy texture. After 3 hours of slow-ox, the wine became more balanced and intense, while the acidity was tamed. It was still enjoyable 18 hours later, with notes of cream, syrup and chenpi. Racy and lengthy. Overall, the nose was mediocre but the concentration was quite impressive for a Village of this age.

November 14, 2019 - Paired 1992 Lafon Meursault Clos de la Barre v. 1992 Coche Dury Meursault Les Rougeots

The Lafon was tighter than the Coche and initially had a more reserved nose of fresh tropical fruit while the buttered popcorn nose on the Coche wafted from the glass. The palate on the Coche was a little flabby relative to Lafon which seemed leaner and fresher though less opulent and supple. In some respects these two wines switched personalities places in this vintage. Setting the popcorn nose aside the Lafon was the leaner more mineral driven wine and the Coche more opulent and fat. Both wines are fully mature and unlikely to improve. Personally I liked the Lafon slightly better, but the Coche’s opulence stole the groups heart.

August 8, 2018 - 4th of 6-pack bought on release. Beautiful medium yellow color, lovely fruit nose laced with some surprising chalky minerality. Nice fresh fruit leaner style with more minerality than the rounder, buttered profile one usually finds in this wine. Drinking very well for a 26yo especially going the lower acidity level of 1992s. Excellent balance, drank well over a three hour window. This bottle was mature but far from over the hill. Similar bottles should hold well for a few more years.

November 24, 2017 - Light gold, not overly dark.
Clean fresh nose, only a very mild oxidative scent, mostly rich fruit and well knit oak spice.
Creamy texture, excellent acidity, crisp long finish. Lovely ripe fruit, lemons and peaches, hint of grapefruit, delicious. Has a sem-sav character of lanolin and straw, almost chewy. It's got plenty of personality but also very smooth and balanced, not at all cloying. Great package and a nice surprise for one so old.

May 17, 2017 - Vertical wine tasting of Meursault Clos de la Barre by Domaine des Comtes Lafon.

1992 wine was unfortunately slightly corked. It was kindly replaced with 2002 Mersault-Charmes 1er Cru. Wine tasting note will follow.
However the expectations from 92 were quite high since that was a great vintage and should live a long life. That should’ve been complex, long, full-bodied nutty Meursault.
