January 7, 2011 - BW/WE Annual Riesling Dinner (Golden Beach Seafood Restaurant, Changi Golf Club): A special wine, but rather too sweet to have more than a few sips. Lovely nose, a bit reserved, but it showed nice scents that reminded of white rum, coconut, maybe even a pina colada, along with grapefruit scents, pink guava, gooseberries and little grassy herb tones that all emerged with a little time. The palate was incredibly, indcredibly sweet - like drinking liquified sugar spiked with fruit essence - red apple, nectarines, peach, pineapple gummies and even a bit of honeycomb thrown in. Super rich stuff. Yet for all that, there was enough acidity thrown in to give the wine a nice sense of detailing, especially towards the finish, where the sweetness eased off just a little for the wine to show a pleasing Darjeeling tea notes. All in all, a unique experience, quite unlike any wine, or Eiswein that I have yet tried. However, it is so sweet that I think it would be wise to set it aside and come back to it after a decade or two.
