November 1, 2021 - As Xavier94 notes, this wine was difficult to properly assess and a number of reasons contributed. I had a tough time deciding the order in which we’d taste the wines, I generally go younger to older. But we had 3 red burgs to try: a fairly reliably sourced ‘71 AC village wine, a 1937 Charmes Chambertin which appeared sound when opened and decanted, but who knew how it would show with airing and tasting over a few hours? I placed this Richebourg last figuring it would be “the wine of the day”. It being a fruit day, had my fingers crossed that they would all show well but holy shit, they were all singing and showing much younger than expected.
This Richebourg seemed amazingly fresh with nose of blueberries and bing cherry, light vanilla bakery smells; a huge thick “juicy” palate with fine-grained tannins. Deeply secondary and not at all tertiary on Sunday. With the ‘37 Charmes putting on an amazing showing, this wine had trouble standing out. 94+

Having placed the remaining half bottle into an empty half bottle, covering with Argon and refrigerating, this was absolutely spectacular the second day: more of a dark cherry character, velvet textured with a huge finish accented by licorice and sous bois. Iron fist in a velvet glove. Deep regrets serving it when I did, how I did! (But I did have a couple of great glasses having it on its own today.) More like 96pts on 2nd day

November 1, 2021 - I had a tough time placing this wine (tasted blind) though it was truly dynamic throughout the afternoon; a very spicy, minty nose of fernet branca liqueur, cherry cola, blueberry with a bit of prune disperses with some real air time to reveal more traditional incense, briary type aromas. There was an almost pen-ink type of quality on the nose that, from what I can imagine, resembled some form of minerality coming through. Supple, rounded with plenty of fat in the midpalate, showing lowish acidity but doesn't come across as heavy or over-ripe. Grand Cru richness in the mouth. 94 (+?)
