December 20, 2016 - from Magnum, I found this hard to enjoy: not showing the sweet fruit notes you find in the best '09s but showing quite a bit of heat. Plenty of structure here but I'm not it has the intensity of fruit for this to ever come into balance.

February 20, 2016 - 7th Wedding Anniversary, Mrs. Knurd and I selected it because of the 2009 vintage. Decanted through a venturi which helped accelerate the aeration (and impressed by the GM who recognized the wine needed it). Predominately black cherry and tarry earth with some hints of anise, black pepper and a nice tobacco note. Still pretty tannic at this point but went well with our feast of meats: I had the shaved sirloin burger and the Mrs the hangar steak. $99 / bottle at Oval Park Grille in Durham is a decent restaurant price if you are looking to splurge and not pay a ridiculous markup (wine searcher averages $45 / bottle). Overall Evaluation: B+ as a restaurant buy.

December 20, 2013 - Already a bit developed color. Red to brick. Fine spicey nose with red berries and roses. Liqurize, leather and tobacco in the end. Less fruity. Decent length. Charasteristic young Barolo but a bit light bodied. Early days but given a few houers decanted, a very good wine.
