Community Tasting Notes 10

  • SAND Likes this wine:

    January 30, 2014 - Appearance:
Nose: Blueberries, dark cherries, some black currant and some lightly burned oak. With air comes black tea and some smoke.
Taste & palate: Slightly sweet fruit, tannins and some oak taste. Not too bad but could have done with less oak. With some airing the taste improves, becomes more fruit driven, less oaky and so bit more complex.

October 9, 2010 - Still a surprisingly dark colour, albeit with no great density.
Quite a simple nose, that seems to lose even it's moderate intensity in the glass.

On the palate, the green edge of the previous bottle is now more subtle and pleasant, and there's some subtle peppery black fruit as well. I suspect the wine is now fading, but perhaps better for that as it's not quite so angular as before.

I really can't see this developing much in the way of complexity, at least not before the fruit fades away.

After a stunning start in the 1st couple of vintages, more recent vintages have significantly underperformed. Off our buying list now, but the Corbec remains of interest.

August 21, 2010 - Had it Aug 20/10 at Johnny Rocco's and we liked it.

March 8, 2009 - Sweet and heavy, was drinkable.

October 30, 2007 - Lighter than previous editions and with a touch of 'greenness'. If I'm being harsh there seems to be a perceptible slide in quality, but maybe the earlier editions did over deliver? Still not a bad wine, but not one I'll be hunting down as we've done before.
