Community Tasting Notes 8

September 11, 2012 - Also a nice surprise. Strawberries and bright red fruit was immediately apparent followed by licorice, a hint of roses, and a hint of orange zest. The tannins were initially a bit astringent but also softened an mellowed into a delicious wine which went well with pan fried quail and roasted pheasant.

January 5, 2012 - Didn't get to see it at it's best perhaps, as it was opened, not drunk, put into the fridge for 2 days, taken out, half drunk, back in for two more days etc.... But, it was a nice drop, new world in style, good fruit forward palate with nice balance and decent finish. Lasted very well with no sign of falling over even on day 5/6!

October 5, 2011 - Essence of licorice in the nose and intensely on the palate. Minerals and linen, cinnamon and herbs. Great, better with food. 1st bottle corked, second and last, perfect.

May 29, 2010 - Stripped bottle, dodgy cork. Tasted lifeless, just a hint of oak and tannins. Pity. Got one left, fingers crossed.

September 29, 2008 - I've never had great Nebbiolo from Napa, but this is sort of like I'd imagine that to be like. Decanted two hours. Copious dark cherry fruit, accented nicely by tar and floral notes, framed by creamy oak and, every so often in this evolving wine, some chemical/nail polishy notes. Very nicely balanced and complex. This is a modern-style cuvee made from vines younger than 30 years, and it is better than some Barolos and Barbarescos in the same $30-$50 price range. I suspect it is at or near its drinking peak. 90-91.
