clearly in the secondary stage for my palate. Light and smooth fruit with a cherry backbone and stems still very present. A good to very good Echezeaux but lacking the depth of the best vintages. 92/93

Wines of the Gods (House of AC and JC): Component of DRC Echezeaux and Grands Echezeaux vertical. Medium ruby with herbal, sour cherry nose. Intense cranberry on palate with whiffs of Keemun tea on a moderate finish. Best 2028-2048.

Quite evolved, open and expressive. Mostly red fruit, spices, slightly floral, undergrowth. On the palate very well balanced, good concentration of fruit, an attractive hint of greenness, well integrated acidity. Very good length. Not the most concentrated, but very elegant and harmonious. 94-96

Delicious and mature Echezeaux in a modest vintage. Seems to be in its consumption peak and I would not think this will benefit from a further cellaring. Refined, balanced, moderate length but quite complex though. A very nice wine.

2007, Échézeaux Grand Cru, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Burgund, Frankreich. Reifes Rubin, aufgehellter Rand. 18.5 vvPunkte (93/100). vvWine.ch

Drank alongside the 07 Dujac Echezeaux for a wonderful comparison. The color and fruit is a bit darker. The nose is less floral but more spice. They both exhibit a hint of wood and earth. The DRC finishes with a nice cool menthol note. Interestingly, not as evolved as a previous bottle from the same lot last month. This one needed additional time in the glass to evolve and was noticeably more youthful.

Ready to drink, even teetering on past due. Medium weight with dark aromas, complex yet lighter-bodied flavors of soy, black cherry, earth. Good length as well. Enjoyable. No need to decant. Drink up over the next 3-5 years.

Medium red color with low to medium transparency. Ripe red fruited nose showing raspberry, cherry, and some strawberry notes. Palate is pure red fruit with full integration (or full obscuring of structure by the fruit). Red fruit, sweet spice, and a hint of licorice carry into a long finish. Pretty, easy to drink, held up well overnight. Compelling, but not particularly site-driven if you're looking for "Echezeaux-ness". Drink or hold.

Typical DRC nose, with that inner sweetness and spicemix/perfume. I loved it, a bit like the 2000, it is sweet, candy fruit, etc. but the 2007 has more structure and acidity. This was a bit light on its feet, and seemed more closed than a few years ago, but it has tough competition tonight.

Great Young Echezeaux Dinner (goosefoot - Chicago IL): Served alongside Liger-Belair 2007 Echezeaux. Charming floral start. Lots of red fruit with good concentration, once again showing more maturity than I would expect. Stems are slightly too overt here. This had been open 3 hours before serving with a quick double decant. Next time I might give it less air.

This wine was drank at a Burgundy dinner that included approximately 15 different bottles. It was poured as the 4th red of the night and was clear and a light red in colour with some orange to it. The nose had some cherries, vanilla and toast to it. In the glass were flavours of candied cherries and caramel alongside with a very slight sour (possibly stems) aftertaste. With very light tannins and acidity and a lower percentage of alcohol than I am used to, I enjoyed this bottle tonight.

This time the bottle was opened earlier to breathe. The slightly green character is more apparent with more air. Nose with red fruit, floral herbs and green bell pepper. Palate on the light side for a DRC Ech, slightly under ripe tannins at the end, medium finish.

Slow ox for 3 hours. The nose had spices, herbs, greenness, mint and wild berries. Overall it was consistent with my previous note, but this bottle had a longer aeration. The palate had red fruit along with some spices and menthol. My concern on this wine is that the greenness will intensify. I would love to revisit after 3 years on this one. I believe it will be the best drinking window by then. 92 for tonight as it was more open than last time.

Opened for 3 hours before consuming. Minty nose with lots of Asian spices, slightly herbal, slightly green at first and some red floral notes in the back. Medium plus palate which will need more time to resolve itself, slight extraction in the back and noticeable tannins. A fine effort for the vintage with at least a point of improvement with more bottle age, slightly disjointed at the moment.

Herbal note, minty, tiny bits of green note, bright cherries and strawberries. After some time with air, some candied fruits started to emerge. It tasted a 07 to me. The wine is too young. Give it 5 more years and it will be better. As of tonight, its a 91pt for me. Slightly below my expectation for a drc. The decanting tonight was clearly not long enough (90 mins)

Easily perhaps the most stunning echezaux I have ever had. It already is developing and approachable. It was spectacular. Worried it would be infanticide, but not. Young, but fresh, initial nose of classic Vosne romanee funk/forest floor. Rich, long and opulent. Opened and decanted 6 hours before drinking, it needed it. Allowed an herbal touch on the nose to blow off/integrate. Rich, opulent, blackberry, cherry, great wine!

Birthday Celebration (Custom House Tavern - Chicago IL): Great perfume, spice and red fruit to start, showing more maturity than I'd expect from a 2007. Ripe red cherry and strawberry flavors, also reasonably advanced. Great spice to support the fruit, but just modest acidity and tannins coming through. In my opinion, this is entering its peak drinking window already. Best now through 2020.

Birthday Wines for Mr. Wei at Chateau De Husky; 6/29/2012-7/2/2012: Explosive nose that only DRC can offer. White pepper and spices mired with red fruit just blow out of the glass from the get go and keeps drawing you in. Deep concentrated sweet fruit on the palate with ripe stems on the backend. The flavor is so intense and the minerality and acid make this a very "fresh" tasting drink. Like most 07's of like quality they are drinking really well right now.

Has the same inner perfume and sweetness as the 2000 had. I think I would be able to pick this blind as a DRC on the nose. It has a sweet and open nose of clafoutis, gunpowder and some toasted wood. The palate is full bodied with great minerality and freshness. Very succulent and easy to drink. Lovely and again a great testament to 2007 as a very good vintage.

Saturday night is Burg Night with Charlie and Edson (Maison MacKay): Bottle #00999. Does "wow" qualify as a valid tasting note? Probably not but that certainly is the easiest way to describe this wine. Simply the most amazing nose I've ever experienced on any wine. It's nearly impossible to describe the floral, spicy nuances in a way that can paint the picture accurately in your mind. I wonder if there are a little group of gnomes that sneak out into the DRC cellars in the middle of the night while these wines are resting in barrel and mix in vials of magic dust when nobody is looking. How else can you make a wine so awesome and unique?? The texture is pure velvet from start to finish with just the right amount of everything in all of the right places. A true treat of a wine. Even the glass left over for 24 hours was still just as perfect, if not better.

Opened to decant a few hours before dinner and it's pretty compelling right out of the gate with a billowing fragrance dominated by the stalks but also featuring some oakspice, cinnamon, and an interesting gamy undertone. As it sits the stalkiness moderates and the spices become more prominent. When you taste it, it's the kind of wine that just makes you feel spoiled. Tough to resist the temptation to drain the whole bottle before dinner but I settle for the occasional sip. Just gorgeously textured, wrapping the whole palate in satin. The flavors are light in complexion, firmly red-fruited, but the material is rich and sappy with a real "inner" density -- the fullness here isn't just baby fat. A wonderful bottle and perhaps all the more wonderful for the fact that it delivers an inimitable DRC experience without any backwardness or obligation to wait.

Wonderful fairly open nose of earthy cherry perfume and new wood. Decanting for a half-hour changed the wine dramatically and it drinks well today although is clearly holding something in reserve. The most notable thing is the smooth and silky texture. Medium-bodied and filled with sweet red fruits it seems perfectly balanced and classically austere with an ethereal quality that is just lovely. Clearly should improve although this seems like an elegant, soft vintage for this wine rather than a serious, powerful one. 91+

A wonderful bottle and perhaps all the more wonderful for the fact that it delivers an inimitable DRC experience without any backwardness or obligation to wait.

litt umodent rasepreg, fiol, anis, grov mineralitet; stram og vegetal også i munnen. Stort, men trenger tid.
